WASHINGTON — “Disconnected” is how brothers Josh and Jonny Zients described feeling when they returned home after volunteering at an AIDS orphanage and children’s home near their mother’s hometown of Cape Town, South Africa.
“We kind of fell out of sync with that day-to-day involvement and were a little uncomfortable with that,” said Josh, 18.
WASHINGTON (ABC7) — With a mission to strengthen the ability of mobile users to donate to international nonprofits, brothers and founders Matt, Josh, and Jonny Zients created the Connect & Care app, which you can learn more about here.
While most other teenagers spent their summers enjoying pools and hanging out with friends, Connect and Care founders Josh and Matt Zients were volunteering at South African orphanages.
The D.C.-native brothers got their sense of altruism from their mother who is from South Africa. After returning to the states in 2017 from working in the orphanage, they felt a disconnect.
